AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 974, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1993, AS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 933, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1994, AS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 966, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1997, TO EXTEND THE REPEALER AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CHICKASAW COUNTY TO IMPOSE ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS IN MISDEMEANOR CASES THE AVAILS OF WHICH SHALL BE USED TO FUND NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI CRIME STOPPERS, INC.; TO INCREASE THE LIMIT ON THE ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS THAT MAY BE LEVIED; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Chapter 974, Local and Private Laws of 1993, as amended by Chapter 933, Local and Private Laws of 1994, as amended by Chapter 966, Local and Private Laws of 1997, is amended as follows:
Section 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Chickasaw County, Mississippi, is hereby authorized and empowered, in its discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy additional court costs in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor filed in the justice court of such county.
(2) The avails of any additional court costs imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid monthly by the county to Northeast Mississippi Crime Stoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information which will lead to the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes and in support of good law enforcement.
(3) This act shall stand repealed from and after July 1, 2003.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
